Holiday costs on Excel

In I.C.T we have been trying to pretend book a proper holiday for the school, 36 people including 6 adults. We have been planning all the costs and information on Microsoft Excel. We have learnt that if you insert the right formula for the right box and the right information you won't have to change everything as it will do it for you. So now we know why Excel is so useful for business and we can now do it so much quicker. Our I.C.T teacher showed us lots of different ways and each one became more of a shortcut than the other.

Comparing Airports

In ICT we have been given three common websites which are used for booking flights for your holiday. We have to compare the three sites.

lastminute is a busy site with nice, bright and eyecatching colours. There is quite a lot of information on one page so it is a busy website. Lastminutes home page needs us to scroll down which isn't always and advantage. A disadvantage is that the website may be hard to use is your first language wasn't English, as it doesn't straight away give you a language selection page. A advantage is that its nice and organized so its easy to use and find things.

easyJet is also a bright colourful website. The first page it takes you to is the language page where you can select which language you can understand which is a great advantage. When you have selected you language it takes you to a well layouted page which has the right amount of information on it. Other things are advertised and its nice and organized. Also a great advantage which people will like is that the home page does not included scrolling down for further information.

This website also has nice, happy, light colours. Its front page is nice and busy but like lastminute it has no language selection. With the front page you do have to scroll down for more information but it has got plenty more adverts and different parts of the website to click on. The one thing about this website is that when you click on flights a pop up window comes up. Some people can prevent pop ups but some may not. This may annoy some people who are looking.

Personally My favorite website was Easy Jet as it wasn't to full of information and it was really easy to use as it was organized and its layout was really nice. It was the only website which had language selections and didn't need scrolling down. No pop ups and I new exactly where I was clicking to.

Evaluation of Microsoft Excel

Also in I.C.T we have learnt the proper use of Microsoft Excel. I can now produce tables and graphs with all the information I need on. Also I have learnt that if you started to write out the three times table it would recognize it and carry it on for you. So we have learnt some formulas which will also do that for money and numbers in business. When we are using a table I have learnt how to turn my titles round and add more or less columns to my chart. We all have used different types of graphs and we have learnt when best to use all of them. We also now know that when we are doing a pie chart and its about who’s favourite animal we can paste images into the graph which is really cool and looks very professional.

In I.C.T we have also learnt how to use Publisher properly. Our teacher taught us about if we made a slideshow what things would make it good and bad. If we had our show on display what things we need to look out for. So if we were standing from a long distance we would have to have nice big text and a readable font. Also the slides must not be busy and full of pictures that you just find and stick them on a page, the pictures must be limited and must match with what your slideshow is about. Also your slides must have something consistent maybe the font, the background colours or something just so the people looking know which slides belong to which show. So overall I admit I used to chuck anything on my slides but now I have to be careful and not just think about my view from here but the view from a distance and enlarged on a big board.

Finally in I.C.T we have learnt how to use Microsoft Publisher correctly. I never really used to understand Publisher and I didn’t know how to use it at all but now I can. When you first go on to it you think what am I supposed to do now. Well, depending on what you are doing whether it’s a business card or a news paper you can pick what the layout is. So say if I was going to do a newspaper report I might click on an example and use one of them for a guide line, start from scratch or pick out a newspaper layout with just boxes and columns in. Then you can do whatever you want really but you have to bare things in mind. You can really make what looks like a proper newspaper. We learnt to justify our writing and to make little columns and subheadings for each piece of writing. A nice bold heading and attractive eye-catching colours. Then at the end we compared our ‘old not very good one’ to our new ‘I know how to use Publisher’ one. I was so pleased it looked really like a news paper. You don’t just have to make a good news paper report though you can design anything.

In Microsoft we have learnt lots of different things. These things include adding a Header and Footer to our work and setting the date so its right whenever we come on, high lighting all our words by pressing ‘Ctrl a’ and many other things which I didn’t know. Before I was taught how to use Microsoft properly I just wrote things in it and I though that was its only meaning but I was wrong. Mr. Buddie proved me wrong and taught my class and me plenty more things we could change to make a better presentation and a faster one too. Also to copy a page from the web all you need to press is ‘Print Screen’ and then ‘Paste’ onto your document. Also we learnt how to put in columns by formatting and then choosing which column we needed to put our text into.

My hero slideshow

Last lesson we finished off our slideshow on our heros and as you know I did Eeyore. When we had finished we each had three sheets with questions on to complete. With these sheets we went around the clas to three people and watched their slideshow. When we had finished watching the slideshow we completed the sheet and left it on their desk. When I had been to three people I came back to my worktop and looked over my left remarks. I then gave them into the teacher. I remeber people leaving me tips and advice on my sheet but also compliments on my slideshow which I am very pleased about. Overall I am really happy with my slideshow and I have remebered the tips Mr Buddie (my teacher) gave me right at the beginning of term.
